Fluorescent is a new kind of arts festival, bringing artists and businesses together to create a platform for innovative, contemporary art work to be displayed in the workplace. Fluorescent celebrates the cultural mix that brings this great city alive and contributes to the inspirational spirit of Soho.
The festival will run over the weekend of July 4-5th and exhibitions will continue in the workplace for the following 6 weeks.
Following the success of last year’s launch, Fluorescent 2015 expands over 11 venues neighbouring its founders on Frith Street; Simons Muirhead & Burton.
Fluorescent 2015 will exhibit the most exciting and talented emerging artists, working in all medium including performance, photography, multi-media and sound installations.
Curators will select and install artworks appropriate to the specific nature of participating venues which will include public lobbies, board rooms, rooftops and gardens. Neighbourhood business already involved with the project include: Tapestry on Frith St. (post production agency); Leslie Clark on Dean St. (construction consultants); and Zero One on Hopkins St. (creative studio production & training).
This year, Fluorescent is in partnership with The Photographers Gallery.
Fluorescent exhibitions are curated by Helen Ratcliffe and Alan Smith from Allenheads Contemporary Arts and the project is produced by Jon Akass.
This is a not for profit venture which will offer exhibition and sales potential to emerging artists, whether fresh out of art college, or developing their careers some years on.
