mima is seven years old and embarking on a new phase in its history. Now part of Teesside University, with a new Director (Alistair Hudson, formerly of Grizedale Arts) and a new vision that proposes mima as a holistic, civic and educational art institution, based on the principles of art as a functional and effective tool for the development of society.
This new vision seeks to place mima as a distinctive international institution, driven by a strong philosophy to develop new approaches to art across society. As part of this strategy mima will move away from the tradition of separate curatorial and educational departments, towards a more holistic structure that combines all gallery functions. mima are therefore seeking to appoint two Senior Curators who will work in partnership with the Director and the mima team to deliver a unified vision of art as education for all. The two Senior Curators will work collaboratively in the line management of a combined curatorial and educational team, to deliver a sophisticated yet accessible programme that works for local, national and international constituents. They will work in a partnership to create an exciting and radical programme that will support the ambition of mima as an exemplar institution, that is truly valued by all.
