On 27th February 2014, the launch of the second New Art West Midlands exhibition was held at The Barber Institute.
New Art West Midlands is an exhibition across four art institutions - Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Grand Union and Wolverhampton Art Gallery - showcasing the creative talent and new work of emerging artists in the West Midlands region.
A Turning Point West Midlands initiative, delivered in association with 14 regional partners, New Art West Midlands exhibits the work of 23 artists, all of whom have graduated from one of the region’s undergraduate and postgraduate fine art degree courses in the past three years: Birmingham City University, Coventry University, Staffordshire University, University of Wolverhampton and University of Worcester.
In its first year, New Art West Midlands attracted a combined audience of 50,000.
Prize winners each get £1,000 from Turning Point West Midlands, plus an addition £1,000 for the overall winner, to develop new work and a residency and project opportunity in one of the partner galleries: mac Birmingham, Library of Birmingham, Airspace in Stoke, the New Art Gallery Walsall, and A3 Project Space, Birmingham.
