Paying artists - new campaign video launched

A new video has been published to help spread the message of the Paying Artists campaign.

The campaign aims to secure funding for artists who exhibit in publicly-funded galleries; at present, 71% of artists get no payment for being part of a publicly-funded exhibition.

The campaign argues that this restricts the time and resources available for artists to create their work, with many turning down the chance to exhibit or giving up on making art altogether. According to the campaign's research, in the last three years 63% of artists have turned down requests from galleries to exhibit their work because they can't afford to do so without pay.

Support for the campaign has been gathering momentum within the Visual Arts sector since it was launched in May, and with the new video Paying Artists hope to highlight this issue for the Visual Arts audience, who visit and enjoy contemporary visual arts in publicly-funded galleries but may not be aware of the financial constraints affecting exhibiting artists.

The video was developed by DHA Communications and designed and animated by Nick Stewart for HandsUp. More information and resources about the Paying Artists campaign can be found at the campaign website -
