Northern Film & Media and Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival are offering up to six artists with a moving image practice the opportunity to attend a one-on-one discussion session with internationally renowned US-based media artist and curator Ben Russell.
Following our joint international call for proposals, Ben Russell has been commissioned to produce a new film, The Wild State, for premiere at Berwick Film & Media Festival in September.
During the course of the festival, artists and artist-filmmakers will have the chance to discuss their practice with Ben in an informal setting, benefitting from his wide ranging experience and expertise.
These meetings are for artists based in the North East region, who are no longer in full-time education. Sessions will be timed so that attendees will also be able to benefit from other activities taking place in Berwick as part of the festival – primarily artist talks and screenings with Q&As. Due to funding requirements, attendees must commit to attending an additional two hours’ worth of these events whilst visiting Berwick.
In order to apply, please send a current CV, plus 300 words on why the session would be useful to you, to email@example.com. The deadline for submission of applications is midday on Tuesday 19th August.
Sessions will be spread across Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st September. Artists will be assigned an hour’s session - please let us know when applying if there is any day and/or time you cannot attend.
The sessions will be held in Berwick-upon-Tweed (exact location TBC). Upon production of receipts, artists will be able to reclaim from Northern Film & Media the cost of travel for attending sessions up to the equivalent of a cheap day return train ticket.
You are welcome to bring work to look at on DVD (although we would advise to not bring too much), plus written material such as practice descriptions. If you do want to show work from DVD you will need to bring a laptop or other screening device with you.
Thanks to our funders there is no charge for attending these sessions. Artist one-to-one sessions are supported by ERDF and Arts Council England through Grants for the Arts.
