Artists are invited to apply for the 2015 Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award (ARMA), Artist in Residence, hosted by the Bluecoat in Liverpool. The Award funds a ten week residency and public art commission worth £15,000.

The Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Award was established in memory of the artist Alexandra Reinhardt and is supported by the Max Reinhardt Charitable Trust.

The residency will take place from February to April 2015 at The Bluecoat, Liverpool's Centre for Contemporary Arts, which is visited by over 50,000 people a year and supports around fifty creative businesses, from individual artists to disability awareness charities.

During the residency the chosen artist or artists will be expected to carry out an education and participatory programme aimed to engage children, young people and families with children from some of Liverpool’s disadvantaged communities.

The residency will result in a semi-permanent commissioned artwork to be displayed for a minimum of six months in the courtyard situated at the front of the building, ideally to be completed by June 2015 (or no later than October 2015). The artist/s will work closely with Bec Fearon, Head of Engagement and Bryan Biggs, Artistic Director at the Bluecoat.

Applications are welcome from artists with no prior experience of working on education, learning or participatory projects, although artists with experience in this area are also welcome to apply.

More than one artist may undertake the residency together, working in the same or different artforms. If there is only one artist the expectation is that they will be a visual artist; if two artists undertake the residency and commission, one of them should be a visual artist and the other may work as a visual artist or in any other artform.

To apply download the Brief for Artists, Application Form and Equality and Diversity monitoring form from the engage website: The deadline for applications is 10am on Tuesday 30 September 2014.

Previous artists to have benefited from the ARMA residency include Maria Zahle, who was recipient of ARMA 2014 at New Walk Museum and Art Gallery in Leicester; and Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva received ARMA 2013 hosted by mima, the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art.
