Fluorescent is a new kind of arts festival, bringing artists and businesses together to create a platform for innovative, contemporary art work to be displayed in the workplace.
The festival celebrates the cultural mix that brings Soho alive and contributes to its inspirational and entrepreneurial spirit.
Following the success of last year’s launch (visit www.sohofluorescent.com) Fluorescent 2015 will expand to 8 venues in the heart of Soho and has developed partnerships with two other leading arts organisations: The Photographers' Gallery and The Contemporary Fine Arts Society, both of whom share our aim in supporting emerging artists.
We are looking for the most exciting and talented artists to participate in this year’s festival working in all medium, including performance, multi-media and sound installations. We welcome proposals from new graduates as well as those further on in their careers.
Curators will select works for the diverse environments of the lobbies, boardrooms, courtyards and rooftops of high profile international and creative businesses, as well as for a stall in the Soho Fete. When and where appropriate, shortlisted artists will be invited to site visits to discuss installation ideas and details.
The festival weekend will be July 4-5th, with previews taking place on the Friday night and exhibitions continuing in the workplace for the following 6 weeks.
This is a not for profit venture which offers exhibition, sales, networking and press potential to artists. We are not commissioning artists to create new work, but aim to cover most transportation and installation costs - including site specific installations carried out by the artists. Commission on sales will be 70% to artists.
Two of our venues are offering support towards the production of work for Fluorescent: 01zero-one.co.uk (TV production) is offering technical support and editing facilities for an audio visual artist (to be selected), and Tapestry.co.uk (creative & media production agency) can provide low cost photographic and printing services.
A residency prize at ACA www.acart.org.uk will be offered to one emerging artist.
Please contact curators by email as soon as possible and before the extended deadline of Friday 10th April 5pm. Send up to 4 low res images, artist’s statement (up to 200 words), C.V., link to website, outline of work available/new work in progress, any installation requirements, or specific ideas for participating in Fluorescent 15, to:
firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com
