The Interpretation Matters Handbook is now published by Black Dog, one strand of Dany Louise's Interpretation Matters project, supported by Arts Council England.
Dany Louise gained her Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Brighton in 2014. She regularly writes about the visual arts and cultural policy for The Guardian, New Statesman and a-n The Artists Information Company. She also works with small arts organisations on projects that will have a strategic impact for them. She initiated the multi-stranded Interpretation Matters project in 2013, which is supported by funding from Arts Council England. The Interpretation Matters Handbook is her first book.
The Interpretation Matters Handbook is all about the writing produced by art galleries for public information. This book humorously challenges your preconceived ideas and interrogates accepted notions of the art language found in galleries. It wonders if simpler language can be used to communicate better - because, good writing matters.
