a-n is inviting applications from members for its new Writer Development Programme. Led by freelance writer and editor Chris Sharratt – a-n’s news editor – the programme is aimed at artists and arts organisers who wish to develop their reviewing, critical writing and journalistic skills.
The 10-month programme will involve a variety of writing tasks, face-to-face workshops and commissions. It will explore reviewing, interviewing, feature writing and working with an editor. There are five places on the inaugural pilot programme, and while applicants do not need to be widely published, they must be able to demonstrate a commitment to developing their writing in this area.
“The programme is about writing for publication and all that involves,” says Sharratt. “If you want to develop your writing skills there’s only one thing better than writing itself, and that’s the process of being edited. Through mentoring, a variety of tasks and the three workshops, we’ll be doing a lot of both.”
Successful applicants will receive a bursary of up to £300 to support attendance at workshops and travel expenses will be reimbursed. The deadline for applications is 12 noon, Tuesday 2 June 2015.
