About Trilogies Live:
As part of CFCCA's ongoing Call and Response programme of sound art, CFCCA and HOME will stage susan lui san lok's multi-channel installation Trilogies as a one-off single-channel film event with live sound interludes, called Trilogies Live.
Trilogies comprises three x 65 mins sequences. These draw on thirteen different adaptations of Jin Yong's The Condor Trilogy spanning some three decades from 1983 to 2015, accumulating depictions of gravity-defying lightness or weightlessness. For HOME, the artist will present Trilogies Live as a single two-hour sequence, with three live sound interludes. Trilogies and Trilogies Live form part of RoCH Fans & Legends, a new body of work commissioned by Derby QUAD and the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CfCCA), in partnership with Animate Projects and the University of Salford. You can read more about RoCH Fans & Legends here: http://www.animateprojects.org/films/by_artist/p/susan_pui_san_lok
susan pui san lok and CFCCA invite North West based artist-collaborators working with sound and/or voice to submit proposals for a live work, to be devised as an interpretation and response to the condensed foley soundtracks and effects from specific segments of Trilogies.
Proposed works of approx 20 mins in duration must:
- Consider the relationship between image and sound
- Consider the dynamics of the cinema space
- Work with the cinema sound system
- Work with the short set up and change over time (20 mins)
Selected artists will develop their work in discussion with the artist and CFCCA, and be invited to view the cinema space at HOME. HOME will provide technical support and ensure health and safety requirements are met. CFCCA will provide volunteers to facilitate performance set up and change over.
